I really don't know how we missed out on this all summer long, but apparently it took a week of solid rain to get mom to take a quick jaunt down to Shaw Library for their Friday morning Mother Goose on the Loose "story hour." I LOVED it. Kane was a little lukewarm on it, but its really designed for kids under 2 -- I think he was a little bit bored. The librarian running the show, Eric, was FANTASTIC. Unfortunately he'll be out on loan, pun intended, to the MLK branch for the next three months. But he insisted that the show will go on at Shaw. We went to the 10 a.m. program, but there is also one at 11 a.m. en espanol. And even if you don't make it to a program at Shaw (there is also a preschool storytime Tuesdays at 10 a.m., a Rock Along music hour Thursdays at 10 a.m., and a Saturday arts and crafts program at 11 a.m.), you have to go there just for the cool new building and the children's section. The librarians are SUPER nice -- they helped Kane find all the pirate books they had (including a non-fiction one they knew of that has cool pictures and a free pirate clip-art CD, which mom is psyched about for Kane's upcoming green pirate b-day party) and even put a hold on all incoming pirate books so that we can check them out when they're returned. And its literally a 30 second walk across the street from the Shaw metro stop. All ya had to do was give Humpty a chance and now I'm gonna do my dance.
