Weekend Makes

The warm weather has officially arrived and school is almost out. Yep, I'd say it's summer. And, in our house, that means it's popsicle time! Stay cool with these Weekend Makes.

Project 52 -- Week 21

This was definitely an "oh crap, I forgot to take a photo until this morning week." Nevertheless, these two are still the. cutest. breakfasters. ever.

New Bathrooms for the Munchkins!

One of the things I love most about our new home is its neutral palette. There is lots of grey and lots of marble. But while those work perfectly with my aesthetic, it seemed a little serious for the kids and their seriously silly personalities. So I knew that I needed to lighten up their rooms a bit. At the same time, I didn't want to make their spaces seem so kiddish that they wouldn't hold up over time. This was especially the case in their bathrooms. I wanted to create fun, bright spaces but still make sure that I could change them easily to grow with the kids. Enter Munchkin's bright and modern bath products -- the perfect way to keep them entertained and both themselves and their bathrooms cleaned up. I think they turned out fabulously!

Spring in Rock Creek Park

We've been trying for weeks to get back to our Rock Creek Park spot. Our last visit was to a frozen, grey, quiet scene. Just a few months later and our fave slice of the park was teeming with life. The kids played for a super long time -- jumping rocks, finding the best hiking stick, looking for shells, and generally dancing around, reveling in the sunshine. So happy for spring!!

Weekend Makes

Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone! This weekend generally marks our very first "summer" trip to the New Jersey shore. Unfortunately, we can't make it this year (although I'm secretly a little pumped that we'll give those cold waters a little more time to warm up before our first trip of the season). But we've still got beach on our minds. Accordingly, beach weekend makes. Happy holiday!!

Project 52 -- Week 20

We finally made it back to our fave Rock Creek spot this week (spring's photos will be up next week!) and these kids were loving it. I don't know what they were looking at in this picture, but I can tell for sure that Cam was dancing.

A Day in the Life (May 2015)

May 12th was chock-full of us trying to get back in the groove after a week-long + visit from family, Cam's big 5th birthday party, grown-up siblings night out, and Mother's Day. Needless to say, we've all been a little tired and cranky. But we pulled it together and had a great Tuesday nonetheless. After you get your fill of our everyday, head over to No Monsters in My Bed and Where the Watermelons Grow to see what they've got going on this spring!

6.45 am -- the kids have been getting up at ungodly early hours. So I've been taking them running with me frequently. But it was already quite hot and humid on this Tuesday am, so they stayed in and "played quietly." Which really meant that they cooperated on building a LEGO portapotty whilst making up a portapotty jam set to Biz Markie's "Just a Friend" ("oh potty you, you got what I need .... " It was really something).

2015 Summer Bucket List -- 75+ Ideas of Summer Fun!

You heard right. We're ready for summer, friends! And we are feeling particularly adventurous this year. The kids had a heavy hand in coming up with our bucket list (can you tell?) and I had to water down several of their ideas to make them a bit more attainable. On Cam's list, for example, was to visit "Egypt, Israel, and Hawaii." Hence, "visit somewhere exotic" on the bucket list. I'm predicting many liberal interpretations.

As with our lists from past years (2013 and 2014), we'll give updates to our progress throughout the summer. But, I will warn you. Given the number of items on our list this year, and our general readiness for summer, we're probably going to count some of May's activities as bucket list qualifiers. What's everyone else got planned!?

Weekend Makes

Ever since the weather took a turn for the warmer, our kids have been begging to have a lemonade stand. I love the idea of it, but having actually made lemonade from scratch before, I know what a pain it is to crank batches of it out. So while I'm busy trying to persuade them to make other delicious drinks, like an agua fresca stand, I'm also coming up with lemon-focused makes to satisfy their citrus curiosity. Happy weekend!

Moving with Kids!

Now that we are safely on the other side of our big house move, I'm sharing my tips on how to survive the feat and (mostly) smoothly transition the kids while keeping their spirits in tact. Head over to Honest to Nod to check it out!

Project 52 -- Week 19

Life's been a little rough + tumble lately. I always forget that the warm-weather-transition to shorter clothes generally means more scraped knees and visible bumps and bruises from playing. life. hard. These two bandaged bubs planted a whole assortment of wonderful edibles with their Grandpa D-Rock this week -- and we stayed out of their way!

Sweet Potato, Roasted Onion + Quinoa Bowl with Tahini-Maple Dressing

I've been on the hunt for dinners that are healthy, but that can be prepared quickly and easily. I just haven't had a whole lot of time to cook dinner the past few months. But I'm trying to keep us all on track, including having a weekly Meatless Monday. The kids put up surprisingly little fuss about it. Although, to be honest, I frequently make an extra side protein for them just to make sure they're getting a rounded meal. But I've found it a great way to start out the week healthy.

Cameron's 5th Ping Pong Birthday Party!

Wowsers. I. am. exhausted. Between a big work deadline, Cam being home sick, getting the house ready for a ton of visiting family, and Cam's 5th birthday party this past weekend, I need a big time break. But even given my current need to hibernate, I felt I'd be remiss in not sharing a few pics from her fab ping pong party. It was so incredibly low key for us, but so, so fantastic! Which leads me to believe that we will be having many more such shindigs for future birthdays.

Weekend Makes

Cam and I are kind of obsessed lately with teeny-tiny jewelry dishes. We've been using them for all kinds of things, but given that it's also Mother's Day this weekend, I wouldn't mind a kiddo-DIY (with some adult help) dish with a little something sparkly in it, too. Happy celebrating to all those who mother!

Project 52 -- Week 18

These two party animals are prepping for Cam's ping pong party this weekend. It's incredibly low key ... for us. But they can't not do anything. So they got busy making personalized ping pong balls, obviously. Love 'em.

Weekend Makes

No big secret that we like any excuse to party! Although since we somehow missed celebrating both National Zipper Day and National Shrimp Scampi Day this week, we feel completely justified in celebrating Cinco de Mayo. So here you go!
