Miscellaneous Madness: Q&A A Day for Kids (December 2013 + January 2014)

With all the holiday and winter madness, we got a little behind on our questions -- both in answering and reporting. BUT we are nearly caught up. Here's the top Q+A from December and January -- a few extras, because we were extra funny. You can't make this stuff up. Seriously.

December 2013

December 1
Q: Who inspires you? Why?

A: Kane -- a work of a good artist because ... VanGogh doesn't really inspire me. Monet does. Wait -- is Monet even an artist? Cameron -- spiders.

December 7
Q: If you were invisible today, what would you do?

A: Cameron -- I'd be like "squeak, squeak." Kane -- I would scare people by moving things around without anybody seeing.

December 10
Q: Pick a parent. How do you know that parent cares about you?

A: Kane -- mommy. I can look inside your heart. I have magic eyes. When you care about me like when I get hurt. Cameron -- daddy. He hugs me. I look into his heart.

December 15
Q: What do you daydream about?

A: Cameron -- umm ... all the whole town, world, my family. Kane -- you know I daydream when I'm  jumping, but I won't answer the question. You can't tell a dream or it won't come true.

December 16
Q: ______ is boring to me because _______.

A: Kane -- no movement -- because like a robbery is not boring. Boring is when you don't have anything to do. If you pretend you're doing a robbery {that's not boring}.  Cameron -- spending time with all the family -- because it's beautiful.

January 2014

January 6
Q: If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?

A: Kane -- to medieval times -- that's a place, it's not just your own house. You don't have to turn back the clock. And then China to see samurai. England to see the Beefeaters. Where do they have war going on? Egypt? I want to go there. Cameron -- to Nona's house.

January 7
Q: What would you like to do but can't do yet?

A: Cameron -- well, when Kaney tells me something, I can't do it because I'm working on something. When I'm done, then I can do it. Kane -- I want to buy a whole castle, but I don't have enough money. I'll marry a queen, get a whole army of knights, rule the world.

January 11
Q: Has anyone ever called you a name? Tell about it.

A: Cameron -- yes -- "sheesha." {my friend} called me it. It means you laugh. It means love. Kane -- "I love you" -- you called me it. You say that all the time. It makes me feel good. Now, the question I'm going to ask you is "can I have a joe-joe?" {cookie}

January 19

Q: How do you feel about babysitters?

A: Kane -- annoyed. I just don't like when my mommy + daddy go away. Actually, I said "Illinois," because I don't want to say a bad word. Cameron -- happy. Because I love babysitters and I love you every day.

January 21

Q: Do you believe in aliens? Explain.

A: Kane -- yes - I've seen one before. It crashed on school -- don't ask my teachers. I'm just making up a theory. Cameron -- no, because they're mean. And have sharp claws. Kane -- and they take human heads off and replace them with alien heads. Cameron -- and eat you for dinner.

January 22

Q: What makes you feel special?

A: Cameron -- ummm... making me shine like a diamond. like a star, like a diamond. {ftr, quoting Rihanna} Kane -- that I'm the greatest architect ever because I make up creative stuff, castles, secret doors, a falling trap.

January 23

Q: Did anyone bug you today? If so, how?

A: Kane -- {points at Cami} -- she kept interrupting me with my castles and I knocked several parts down. Cameron -- {points at Kane} -- because he smacked me in the face {laughing}. Kane -- no I didn't -- she's lying - take her to council jail! Cameron -- guards, get him! {proceed with rock, paper, scissors}.

Miscellaneous Madness: Q&A A Day for Kids (November 2013)

Last month, mom shared with you her favorite 5 Q&A's from our new daily journal. We've all been incredibly busy and while we don't always do one question every day, we do make sure that we do all the questions. And we've continued to keep mom laughing almost every day (although sometimes she says if she doesn't laugh ....). So here's her top five from this month.

October 23
Q: What would you like to get rid of or throw away?
As:
Cameron: when I broke my toy, it was pretty old + we threw it away. and when I was a baby in your tummy, you used to rock me + rock me and then you threw away blood.
Kane: you (mom). I didn't mean you (mom), I meant you (Cam). Cam: well, I'm pretty heavy.

November 04
Q: Which character would you be in a movie or on TV?
As:
Cameron: movie -- a princess!
Kane: a knight. that was easy to pick -- my favorite thing. or a king. or a dragon. or a zombie. or a vampire. or a warlock. or a monster.

November 07
Q: How do you pass the time on long car rides?
As:
Kane: I ask my mommy to give me things -- like open my window.
Cameron: clapping. drinking. yogurting. picking apples and leaves. picking owls is my favorite.

November 16
Q: The two things I'm most afraid of are ____ and ____.
As:
Kane: darkness and nothing else but darkness.
Cameron: darkness and "a tuco" -- it's darkness, I said it in Spanish.

November 19
Q: What advice would you give to a younger brother or sister?
As:
Kane: well, I have a younger sister, so I'd say that's a "5," not a "6." and you tooted, so say "excuse me."
Cameron: Thanksgiving things, like Hanukkah, like Christmas. Kane: if you wan't to learn about Thanksgiving, (smacking his chest) straight from me.

Miscellaneous Madness: Q&A a Day For Kids

We owe a huge thank you to No Monsters in My Bed for posting on the book "Q&A a Day For Kids: A Three-Year Journal." When mom spotted their post on it, she went out and bought the book immediately. Literally. And we started right in that night.

The book provides one question a day, 365 days a year, for 3 years (the questions repeat annually), and prompts a total of 1,095 conversations with your kiddos. Sometimes mommy gets short, to-the-point answers. And sometimes we want to talk about an answer at length. It's entertaining. And surprising. A great way to capture our personalities day to day. And we LOVE it. We remind mommy almost every day and look forward to each other's answers (we take turns daily as to who answers first and we generally hear each other's answers, which frequently colors our own).

And since mom is completely defunct in the baby book department and has not yet done the family interviews from our summer bucket list, we thought it would be fun to share a few highlights each month of mom's top 5 favorite answers. Some are sweet and some are just downright hysterical (to mom, at least). So, here you go!

September 23
Q: The best thing about being a grown-up is _______.
As:
Cameron: to eat food, to eat veggies. I like to eat oranges. Um ... polka dot.
Kane: I think grown-ups are boring because they don't play. They just work, work. Well, we could cook.

September 26
Q: What did you have for breakfast today?
As:
Kane: pancakes. I mean french toast -- I wanted to fool you, but I couldn't!
Cameron: cereal {laughing as she's eating french toast}. Kane: You fooled her Cam, thanks!

October 1
Q: Whom are you worried about? Why?
As:
Kane: myself. Because I couldn't bring things to school. My teachers are going to fire me {worried about homework}.
Cameron: someone else -- it starts with the letter B. Actually, piggy -- he needs a blanket. I'm worried about that picture.

October 13
Q: If I had a magic eraser, I would erase ______.
As:
Cameron: I would sneak into my brother's room and take something.
Kane: a drawing of a princess castle -- I'd sneak into my sister's room and erase a pretty princess castle that she drew.

October 14
Q: Are you more like a monkey, a tiger, a fox, or a rabbit?
As:
Kane: a fox. I'm fierce, I like to play, I like new things ... to eat. And that's why I'm like a fox.
Cameron: um ... a giraffe. Because I like rescue robots. I get to rescue people. And they get to glow in the dark. I like horsies.
