Olympics Viewing Party!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Olympics. It's something about all those young hopes and dreams, perseverance, hard work. It's incredibly impressive and drives our household into Olympic obsession every time they roll around. Joel and I actually went to the last Olympic summer games in London and we originally planned on attending Rio this year with our whole family. Alas, we are not. BUT we will be watching the Opening Ceremony tomorrow night with fanfare and you can too! Even if you didn't plan ahead (like us), you can pull together an easy fun evening with these ideas. Go for it.

Umbrella Beach: From Brigantine, NJ to London, UK

We were all set to spend last week with mom at Nona's house while daddy stuck it out working in the city, when a truly serendipitous chain of events occurred:  daddy had a last minute meeting in London come up; Nona, D-Rock and Uncle Steve (who was visiting in NJ) all graciously agreed to take care of us; mommy found airfare; a friend of a friend in London came through with some Olympic tickets and one of daddy's clients came through with some more.  And before we knew it, Kane and I were at Nona's and mommy and daddy were on their way across the pond for an entire week of Olympic fanfare.

We each had ridiculously indulgent week of fun -- Kane and I spent a lot of time at the beach, but also made a trip to the Ocean City boardwalk, hit up the Brigantine library, picked up some new breakdancing moves, and dined all over town.  Mom and dad, through a variety of inexplicable means, ended up seeing the men's gymnastics finals (with seats IN FRONT of all three princes), Team GB women's soccer beat Brazil, women's beach volleyball (apparently one big party), swimming (including the Lochte/Phelps semifinal battle and the US women win gold in the 4 x 200 relay), and the US men's volleyball team beat Brazil.  They also ate (and imbibed) all over town.  We are collectively detoxing and readjusting today and will be back in the blogging saddle tomorrow!  Thanks to everyone for helping all of us have such a fabulous week!

We spent our last night in Brigantine together and walked home along the beach after a dinner out.  Kane and I are now entirely impossible to keep out of the water.

"night night, beach.  night night, ocean."

D-Rock brought Veg down to join us for a little impromptu evening swim.

yes, it looks like we are trying to go to sleep in the ocean.
but, we were really just pretending to be mermaids.

Mommy still has to sort through all the Olympic pics, but here are a few snapshots of the Olympic "beach."

All the World is Green: Green Family Olympics

So we use the term "olympics" very loosely.  It was more of WWF Raw meets I Survived a Japanese Game Show, but it was real.  And it was spectacular.  Especially for me -- because I threw a fit and made mom hold me the entire time.  Kane threw a fit about not being "first" in everything -- so he redefined the games to include a heat wherein he was the only participant and thus the automatic winner (although we wouldn't put it past him to throw a singular race just to throw a fit about it).

Mom had planned three games for our family olympics: (1) three-legged race around the sprinkler; (2) an egg carrying race; and (3) a water balloon toss game.  The brothers Green are not known for their sportsmanship and as soon as mom yelled "go" for the three-legged race and Uncle Steve tossed his girlfriend Kim to the ground to take out his own mom with an impressive leg sweep, the Green family's take on the "olympics" was solidified.  Thereafter the egg race turned into "egg the Brit," and the water balloon toss brought up the rear as "pelt Uncle Steve."  We put the Real Housewives of New Jersey's field day to shame and another Green family tradition was born.  Good times.

those poor eggies had no idea what was coming

he doesn't look like he's planning something, does he?

OK, we'll pretend to have a legit race

hit the Brit!
