Weekend Makes

I can proudly say that I held off on buying Halloween candy until just a few days ago and it's been deeply hidden away, waiting to see the light of day until tomorrow. But, between our recent move to a more residential neighborhood and the kids finally being old enough, I think we're set up for some serious trick or treating this year. Which means that I also need a plan to deal with all the candy that is going to flood in after I hand out our stash (other than me eating all of it). Thus, candy Weekend Makes. Happy Halloweening!!

2 / use a small candy box to make an instant comfort box like this! I know one little lady that would love to have something like that at school.

Project 52 -- Week 43

The kids had school off last Friday for parent-teacher conferences so we set out adventuring like the good ol' days. We stopped for lunch at one of our faves, DGS in DuPont Circle, and then had a glorious sunny time at the fountain for a bit.

Spooky Oobleck!

My guys have been chomping at the bit to make a fall sensory project (see our favorites round up here) and I thought it would be fun to loop in a little science at the same time (it's on our Fall Bucket List after all!). So we decided to make a batch of spooky oobleck!

Pumpkin Picking at Sharp's at Waterford Farm

I generally love adventures to new places, but I have to say, in the past several years, visiting farms for "you pick {insert seasonal item}" have been among my least favorite trips. I think it's the tendency of some of these spots to charge expensive admission fees, and then additional money for mediocre activities (like feeding overfed animals) that the kids beg for. And that doesn't even include the price for whatever you actually pick. Plus, crowds.

Project 52 -- Week 42

Oy this week. As it always seems to happen, things break or go wrong in clusters. Both our washing machine and refrigerator/freezer have broken this week. And it's got everyone in a funk. Oh well, thank goodness for laundry service and wine fridges! In any event, I didn't get a great photo of these two this week. This is this morning at breakfast, where I encouraged a little robot dance party to get everyone in a good mood.

Marble Monoprints

We've been making slow but steady progress on our Fall Bucket List and Cam was so excited to try out a new kind of paint printing.
